OM.2023.040 - Dawn Bisio - USA
BIO
Dawn Bisio is a painter and installation artist. Born in Seoul, South
Korea and adopted into the US, she spent much of her formative years in the
American Southwest. Processing difficult experiences, understanding her
transcultural identity, and achieving a mesmerized flow-state are the driving
forces behind her creative impulses. Spontaneity and experimentation source her
often abstract, colorful, and multi-layered paintings. Conversely, her
installations emerge from deliberate themes and ideas carefully planned out and
executed. Both forms allow her left brain / right brain access for a more
holistic, creative output sparking joy, understanding, and greater human
connection.
STATEMENT
The Reckoning is a mixed media piece about existentialism as
ichnographically portrayed by an existential poem on a representational piece
of crumpled paper. It is both meaningful and meaningless: an elegant, sublime
portraiture of the existential question and simultaneously a snapshot of
indifference, as if, while walking, one were to absentmindedly step on it like
a piece of trash. The choice of a faint blue background is to hint at a Tiffany
blue: regal, timeless, exalted, and to evoke the expansiveness of an endless
blue sky or the interminableness of the sea. Quite simply the nothingness of it
all.
