Bio

Lilian Sten-Nicholson, Swedish-born painter, printmaker and writer, has been active in Caribbean arts for more than five decades. She is a former President of the Barbados Arts Council and a member of AICA (International Art Critics Association). Between 2001-2019 she was a tutor at the Division of Fine Arts, BCC. Barbados.

Sten has exhibited extensively in the Caribbean and internationally. Her work is represented in the National Collection of Barbados, the University of the West Indies Collection, and numerous Corporate and Private Collections.

Statement

I believe, that the elusive ‘presence’ in a work of art is in the mark. Not in the style, nor in the color or the form, but in the primal energy of the of the mark itself. My work is eclectic. I work with overarching themes and allow individual pieces to evolve within their parameters.
