OM.2023.026 - Carl T. Chew - USA
BIO
Carl Chew has long studied the world through an absurdist
lens. Known primarily for his "mail art" and collage, in 2019 the
artist decided to apply his wild imagination to our regional landscape. The
resulting imagery feels immediately familiar, and upon further inspection, also
highly produced (The Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, Washington). Carl T. Chew was
born in Urbana, IL, in 1948. He earned both his BS (Zoology) and MFA
(Printmaking and Video) from the University of Washington, He is Artist in
Residence, Edmonds Community College and Founder and director of The
Contemporary Carpet Center in Kathmandu, Nepal. His work has been exhibited at
a number of galleries and museums in Washington state and around the country.
His work includes prints, digital prints and posters.
